About Cloud 9 Farms
Welcome! Kelly and Abi here - we own and operate Cloud 9 Farms in Penrose, CO (near Colorado Springs). We started this farm because we wanted to eat fresh, nutrient-dense foods, produced using methods beneficial to the humans, the animals and the land. We produce more food than we can eat, and share the surplus with our milk share partners and other folks that appreciate better-than-organic food.
We are primarily a grass based operation. All of our animals are on pasture or free ranged. We only harvest animals between May and November, as it is important to us that the animals are coming off live grass (not hay). We never use any GMOs or soy based feeds. We do not administer hormones, and would only use antibiotics as a last resort to save a life. We practice low-stress livestock handling and believe happy, healthy, loved animals make tasty, healthy, nutrient dense food.
In addition to managing the farm, we also have two children under 4 years old, a full time day job and various other commitments. Our goal is to raise as much food as possible while maintaining a healthy family/work/farm balance. Because of this, our production will vary year to year.
Our extended family now includes:
- Our Brown Swiss/Jersey cow, Lucy (she produces amazing raw milk)
- A flock of Katahdin and Royal White hair sheep (tasty, mild lamb)
- A flock of Beyond Organic Chickens (for eggs and broilers)
- Royal Palm and Narragansett Turkeys (so much better than wild or factory farmed)
- Kune Kune Pigs (hardy, cute and tasty)
All of our animals are rotationally grazed on irrigated pasture from early Spring through late Fall. They have free access to fresh water, minerals and salt at all times. During the winter they are supplemented with alfalfa and grass hay grown by Cloud 9 Farms.
Penrose averages 351 days of sunshine per year, and receives very little rain, so we irrigate our pasture to maintain growth. Our irrigation water comes off the south slope of Pikes Peak. We never use artificial fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides on our pasture.
We welcome farm visits and encourage customers to get to know all of the farm’s inhabitants. Please contact us to set up a time.
